TORSION SPRINGS–Custom manufacturing, technical design, and tailor-made production

Torsion springs are designed to store mechanical energy when twisted. Unlike compression springs, which act linearly, torsion springs exert force in a circular direction (torque). At MIBO Springs, we specialize in the precision manufacturing of torsion springs from high-quality certified materials that ensure long service life and reliability in various mechanisms.

Premium materials and certified standards

We guarantee the long-term elasticity and stability of our products by selecting certified materials in accordance with EU standards. In addition to commonly used spring steel (EN 10270-1) and corrosion-resistant steel (1.4310), we can provide special alloys for the most demanding operating conditions upon request.

Leg position

The geometry of the legs and their mutual position are crucial for the correct preload and function of the torsion spring within a mechanism. We standardly manufacture springs with leg angles ranging from 0° to 360°, customizing the position exactly according to your drawing documentation. Proper leg orientation ensures that the spring is always loaded in the direction of coiling, maximizing its service life and efficiency.

Direction of coiling

For torsion springs, the correct coiling direction is critical for their functionality, as they must always be loaded in the direction of the wire coiling. We standardly manufacture right-hand springs, but according to your technical specifications, we also produce left-hand variants. The choice of coiling direction is decisive not only for assembly but primarily for ensuring maximum service life and correct torque.

DIMENSIONS OF TORSION SPRINGS

  • For the correct design of a torsion spring, the key parameters are the wire diameter d, the outside coiling diameter De, the length of individual legs Ls, the total number of coils n, and the total leg angle alpha in the unloaded state.
  • Our technical specialists can manufacture torsion springs exactly according to your drawing documentation, taking into account the required torque Mn at a specific working angle.

Double torsion springs

Double torsion springs consist of two individual coil bodies (one right-hand and one left-hand) connected by a common bridge. This solution allows for higher torque while maintaining stability and a symmetrical force distribution within the mechanism.

Leg orientation: Correct definition of the mutual angle between the legs and the connecting bridge is crucial. We standardly produce variants with parallel legs or legs at specific angles.

  • Symmetry: Due to the combination of right-hand and left-hand winding, the forces within the spring balance each other out, preventing lateral deflection.

  • Bridge variability: The connecting bridge can be straight, bent, or custom-shaped to fit precisely into your device's housing.

Heat treatment

The production of every torsion spring concludes with a controlled heat treatment process, which is essential for relieving internal stresses after cold forming. This step ensures high dimensional stability, precise maintenance of the leg angles, and torque consistency. Thanks to proper heat treatment, the spring retains its mechanical properties and functional reliability even under long-term cyclic loading.

Surface treatment

The surface treatment of torsion springs primarily serves to increase their resistance to corrosion and environmental influences. A high-quality finish protects stressed areas, particularly in the leg bends, and ensures smooth functionality. Depending on customer requirements, we provide:
